Daily Makeup Routine in 5 minutes

When I am trying to get out the door in a few minutes, putting on makeup is obviously not my number one priority. I can go days during a busy month without touching any of my cosmetics (except for my concealer though). Nonetheless, no matter how limited it is, me-time in the morning is always appreciated. I have thus managed to come up with a makeup routine that takes me no more than 5 minutes: enough to feel pampered, and to hit the road on time.

If you’re anything like me, and are also trying to save time in the morning getting ready, these 5 steps below might be helpful. I have also mentioned the products that I personally use in case you were looking for recommendations, however I am pretty sure that whatever brand you already own will do the trick as effectively (-okay this was a failed attempt at not wanting to promote consumerism).

Step 1: Moisturizer + Sunscreen

I use sun protection and moisturizer -almost- on a daily basis. I’ve been using the Aveeno ultra-calming moisturizer for quite some time now, and I just love it! The fact that it comes with sunscreen makes the whole difference because it allows me to save time by using one product that accomplishes two things at the same time. I usually apply this with my fingers. When I’m having a not so good skin day, I apply a foundation or tinted moisturizer on top of it with a stippling brush for an air brushed effect. The whole procedure takes around a minute.

Step 2: Mascara Primer/ Mascara

One thing I fully appreciate about mascaras (and lipsticks) is the effort/impact ratio. A layer or two are enough to give the impression that you took the time to get ready. They’re Real tinted primer is one of the few high-end products that I keep on purchasing over and over again. The mascara is pretty good as well and greatly does the job. I start by layering my lashes with the tinted primer and add on top of it a layer of the mascara for a blacker/more intense effect. When I’m really on a rush I opt for only one of these two and end up with a more natural look. This step takes around two minutes.

Step 3: Concealer

I then conceal my under eyes areas and blemishes with the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer. I’ve been raving about this concealer for the past year and have also included it in my 2016 faves as well as in this review. For this step, I either use the same stippling brush or a concealer brush, and it takes me less than a minute.

Step 4: Powders (Bronzer/Blush/Highlighter)

When it comes to face palettes, I usually go with the Kate Sculpting palette by Rimmel. If you are looking for a bronzer, blush and highlighter, this palette makes the perfect choice. Besides the fact that it is super affordable, the packaging is well thought of, and the quality and pigmentation are quite amazing. That being said, I usually only use the bronzer on my jaw lines and forehead when I am in a rush. It takes me less than a minute. If I can spare some extra seconds, I would use the blush or/and highlighter on my cheeks and cheekbones.

Step 5: Lip balm/Lipstick

When it comes to bold lipsticks, I personally need to be precise. Precision however requires extra time. So obviously, I tend to skip it and settle for a lip balm instead. Eos is one of my all time favorites, and I keep one in each of my bags. If you prefer something more colorful you can opt for a tinted lip balm, and if you feel comfortable enough with bold lipstick or gloss, go for it. This step takes me no more than a few seconds.

Again, the whole procedure takes no more than 5 minutes and the good thing about it (and routines in general) is that you end up achieving them in less time the more you repeat them. Using the same product constantly also has it perks -like emptying it sooner and buying some other ones guilt-free. I do however switch up the products and alter my routine every now and then for a change.
